These terms and conditions govern all transactions between Yellowhite LTD and our customers. By placing an order with us, you agree to be bound by these terms. All transactions are subject to the laws of England and Wales.

About Us

Yellowhite LTD operates yellowhite.co.uk from 71-75 Shelton Street, London, WC2H 9JQ. Company Registration No. 15526944. VAT No. 473 0210 29. We specialise in the buying, selling and transferring of private number plates.

Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at our discretion. The version in effect at the time of your transaction governs that transaction. Continued use of our website signifies your acceptance of any updated terms.

Buying a Private Plate

What You Get

Purchasing a private plate gives you the right to assign and display a registration number — it does not transfer ownership of the registration itself, which remains with the Crown.

Subject to Availability

Prices and availability can fluctuate until an order is formally confirmed. We cannot guarantee the availability of any registration until confirmation is issued.

Order Confirmation

A legally binding contract is formed only after we confirm availability, validate payment, and issue a formal order confirmation.

Personalised Product Exemption

Once an order is confirmed, you have no right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, as all registrations are personalised products.

Refund Policy

Refunds are only available if:

• The registration becomes unavailable after your order
• The seller or DVLA rejects the transaction
• The registration is found to be invalid

Cancellations for New Registrations

You may request a cancellation within 7 days of ordering, subject to DVLA approval. A cancellation fee, capped at 20% of the purchase price, may apply.

Deposit Terms

Any deposit paid is final and non-refundable unless the registration is unavailable, invalid, or the seller refuses the transaction.

Payment Commitment

Full payment is required within 14 days of ordering, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

Government Rights

The DVLA may withdraw or restrict any registration number at any time. We accept no liability for such actions.

Transfer Timeframes

Most transfers are completed within 7–10 working days. Second-hand registrations held on retention certificates typically take 3–4 weeks, and may take up to 12 weeks in some cases.

Responsibility for Compatibility

It is your responsibility to ensure the registration you purchase is compatible with your vehicle. We are not liable for unsuitable purchases.

Incorrect Information

We accept no responsibility for errors arising from incorrect information you provide during the order process.

Transfer Failures

If a transfer fails for reasons outside our control, no refund is payable. Additional fees may apply if a re-attempt is required.

Vehicle Age and Suitability

DVLA regulations prohibit displaying a registration that makes a vehicle appear newer than its actual age. It is your responsibility to verify compatibility. Our suitability checker tool is provided as a guide only.

Only vehicles eligible for road tax and MOT can have a registration assigned. Farm vehicles, agricultural vehicles, and tax-exempt vehicles are not eligible.

Gift Cards and Vouchers

• Discount codes and gift vouchers apply only at the point of purchase and cannot be applied retrospectively.
• Offers cannot be combined unless explicitly stated.
• Vouchers are redeemable exclusively on yellowhite.co.uk for registration purchases.
• No refunds are available on gift cards or vouchers under any circumstances.
• Gift cards have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash or resold.
• Gift cards expire 12 months from the date of purchase; any unused balance is forfeited.
• Only one gift card may be used per transaction.
• Gift cards are delivered electronically. We are not responsible for non-receipt due to incorrect email addresses.
• Gift cards are non-transferable and personal to the recipient.

Delivery Policy

• Any address changes must be confirmed in writing from your purchase email address before dispatch.
• Physical number plates are dispatched via courier. If a delivery cannot be completed due to an inaccessible address, the package will be returned. Re-dispatch may take up to 6 weeks.
• Plates are deemed lost in transit after 7 days without a delivery update. We will reprint and dispatch a replacement at no additional cost.
• If you do not receive an expected registration certificate, contact us immediately. We will liaise with the DVLA to arrange a replacement.

V750 / V778 Registration Certificates

It is your responsibility to ensure the registration is assigned to a vehicle before the certificate expires. Extensions are available if required. We may charge an administration fee for issuing duplicate certificates. Certificates will list Yellowhite or the previous owner as purchaser, with you named as nominee if applicable.

Transfer of Registrations

• You are responsible for providing the vehicle documentation required for a transfer.
• Your V5C logbook is not usually required, but may be requested in some cases.
• We accept no responsibility for errors arising from incorrect vehicle information you supply.
• Only vehicles eligible for road tax and MOT can receive a transfer.
• If you wish to retain a registration off a vehicle, notify us immediately after ordering. Additional DVLA and administration fees apply.
• Our Managed Transfer Service fee is non-refundable if the transfer fails for reasons outside our control.
• If you do not use our managed service, you and the nominee are responsible for completing the transfer correctly.
• It is illegal to display a new registration on a vehicle until the DVLA officially confirms the transfer.

Acrylic Number Plates

• All physical plates are custom-made to order. They are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and cannot be cancelled after confirmation.
• All plates supplied are fully DVLA-compliant, including font, size, colour, spacing and required identifiers.
• You must not alter character spacing, font, or plate appearance in any way. We accept no liability for fines resulting from non-compliant modifications.
• Plates are quality-checked before dispatch. If your plates arrive damaged, report this within 7 days and we will provide a free replacement.
• Images on our website are for illustration purposes only.

Selling a Private Number Plate

• By listing a plate with us, you confirm you are the rightful owner or are authorised to sell it.
• Our commission is added to the sale price and paid by the buyer.
• We cannot guarantee how long it will take to sell a plate.
• We reserve the right to decline listings with unrealistic pricing.
• We will notify you of any reasonable offers; the decision to accept remains yours.
• We act as a broker and require the V750 or V778 certificate to facilitate a transaction.
• Payment is made within 10 working days of the transfer completing, via bank transfer. Any bank charges are deducted from your payment.
• Payment is only made once the transfer is complete and the registration is no longer under your name.
• We reserve the right to withdraw any listing from sale at any time.

Third-Party Listing Use

Our registration lists are provided on an "as is" basis, without representations or warranties as to accuracy or availability. We accept no liability for any losses arising from reliance on information we share with third parties.

Force Majeure

We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our control, including postal delays, DVLA actions, or third-party errors.

Entire Agreement

These terms supersede all prior agreements and representations. We reserve the right to cancel any order or certificate without liability, including in cases of suspected fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
