We’re always looking to improve our services and policies to better serve you. As such, please be aware that we reserve the right to update or modify these terms and conditions at our discretion. The most current version of the terms will govern any and all transactions, and they will be in effect at the time of your purchase or use of our services. We recommend reviewing our terms periodically to stay informed of any changes. Your continued use of our services following any updates signifies your acceptance of those changes, ensuring our ongoing partnership is always based on mutual understanding and respect.
What You Get: When you buy a registration from Yellowhite, you (or your nominated person) are purchasing the right to assign and display that specific registration mark on a vehicle, as governed by DVLA regulations. You do not own the registration in the traditional sense. It remains the property of the Crown, but you gain exclusive rights to use it under the DVLA’s assignment rules.
Subject to Availability: All registrations are subject to availability at the point of order confirmation. We source plates from multiple channels, including third parties, so availability can occasionally change in real time. Prices and availability may fluctuate up until your order is confirmed by us. If a plate is no longer available, we will notify you as soon as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative registration of equal value.
Order Confirmation: Your online order constitutes an offer to purchase. A legally binding contract is only formed once we:
The email you receive after checkout is an acknowledgment of your order and not a guarantee of availability. If we are unable to fulfil the order, we reserve the right to cancel and issue a full refund.
Personalised Product Exemption – No Right to Cancel: Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, personalised goods are exempt from cancellation rights. Private registration numbers are considered bespoke items tailored to your specification. Therefore, once your order is confirmed, you do not have the right to cancel or receive a refund, including for deposit payments, unless legally or contractually required.
Refund Policy:
Once you’ve made payment (in full or as a deposit), we immediately begin the registration process. Refunds are only available in the following circumstances:
We do not offer refunds any reasons including:
This policy exists due to the bespoke nature of the product and in compliance with consumer legislation regarding personalised goods.
Cancellations for New Registrations: You may request a cancellation for a new (unissued) registration within 7 days of purchase. Upon receiving your request, we will contact the DVLA to determine whether cancellation is possible. Please note that:
Deposit Terms: Deposits are final and non-refundable unless the registration is unavailable, invalid, or the seller refuses to complete the sale. By paying a deposit, you authorise Yellowhite to commence the acquisition and transfer process, which may include contacting third-party sellers and incurring administrative costs.
Payment Commitment: Once you make payment, either in full or as a deposit, you are committing to the purchase of the registration. Part payments must be completed within 14 days unless agreed otherwise. Failure to complete payment may result in forfeiture of your deposit and cancellation of the transaction.
If Your Choice Isn’t Available: If the registration you picked is no longer available, you can either pick a new one of equal value or get your money back. If you pick a new one, the same rules apply. As mentioned before, the availability and prices of registrations on our website can change anytime, including between the time you select your number plate and check-out. No compensation or consequential loss will be offered above the price you have already paid.
Government Rights: The government (through the DVLA) reserves the right to withdraw or restrict any registration number at any time. While rare, Yellowhite accepts no liability for actions taken by the DVLA.
General Timeframes: For most transactions, we aim to complete the registration transfer within 7–10 working days. However, second-hand registrations on retention certificates require a more manual process involving postal communications and additional DVLA processing. In these cases, the timeframe can extend to 3–4 weeks, and occasionally up to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the transaction and DVLA processing times. We are not responsible for delays caused by sellers, postal services, or DVLA processing. While we chase updates regularly, these timelines are standard across the industry. We will always provide you with updates and ensure that your registration is secured as quickly as possible.
Responsibility for Compatibility: It is your responsibility to ensure the registration you purchase is suitable for your vehicle. We provide clear disclaimers and guidance regarding vehicle age eligibility at checkout and on the registration detail page. You must not assign a registration to a vehicle that would make it appear newer than it is.
Incorrect Information: We rely on the accuracy of the information you provide during purchase and transfer. Yellowhite cannot be held responsible for delays or failed transfers resulting from errors or omissions by the buyer.
Non-Assignment or Transfer Failures: If a transfer attempt is made and fails due to issues not caused by Yellowhite, including unsuitable vehicles, incorrect nominee information, or absent documentation, no refund will be issued. Additional administrative fees may also apply.
Although you can still buy any registration on offer, you will need to make sure that you pick a registration that is suitable for your vehicle. In accordance with current regulations, it is not permissible to assign a registration number to a vehicle that would make the vehicle appear newer than its actual age. As an example; you cannot place a number plate registered in March 2010 on your vehicle that was registered in September 2005, as this would inaccurately suggest the vehicle is newer than its true age.
Purchaser Responsibilities and Restrictions: We do not guarantee the ability to assign a chosen registration to any specific vehicle. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure the compatibility of the purchased registration with the intended vehicle. Information regarding vehicle age requirements is available on the registration detail on our Vehicle Age and Registration Suitability page. Additionally, we do make you aware of the number plate’s age before purchasing so please take extra notice a vehicle age disclaimer is presented at checkout. By proceeding with the purchase, the purchaser acknowledges this information and absolves Yellowhite of any liability should the registration prove unsuitable for the intended vehicle.
Eligibility for Registration Assignment: Registrations may only be assigned to vehicles that are eligible for road tax and undergo testing—such as a MOT. Vehicles classified under limited usage categories, including farm or agricultural vehicles, tax-exempt vehicles, or those not requiring a MOT, are ineligible for the registration transfer scheme. Consequently, it is not possible to transfer a registration to or from such vehicles.
Coupons, promotional deals, and discounts are exclusively available for the purchase of registrations and must be applied at the time of purchase. These promotional offers cannot be applied after a transaction has been completed, nor can they be applied retrospectively. Each offer is valid only against the registration’s full listed price and cannot be combined with any other discounted rate or promotional offer. Please be aware that all coupons, discounts, and deals are subject to limited availability and may be constrained by specific timeframes within which they must be used.

Usage Limit: Only one gift card may be utilised per transaction.

Non-transferable: Gift vouchers are personal and can only be used by the individual to whom they are issued.
Terms and Conditions Applicability: Purchases made with a gift card, whether in part or full, are subject to the same terms and conditions outlined on this page.
Unavailable Registration Mark: If a registration mark purchased with a gift card is unavailable, the amount deducted will be credited back to the original gift card or issued to a new one.
Insufficient Funds: If the gift card balance does not cover the full cost of the purchase, the remaining amount must be settled using a debit or credit card.
Address for Delivery: Deliveries are made to the address provided at the time of purchase. Should you need to change the delivery address, please send us written confirmation from the email address used during the purchase. We will make every effort to accommodate the change, provided the items (certificates/number plates) have not already been dispatched. If the items have been posted, we regret that we cannot alter the delivery address.
Dispatch and Delivery of Number Plates: Number plates are dispatched through courier services. In instances where delivery fails due to inaccessible delivery locations (e.g., no one available at the property), the courier will return the plates to us. In such cases, re-dispatching the plates to you may take up to 6 weeks as we await their return.
Lost in Transit: Number plates will be deemed lost if there has been no update on their delivery status for a period exceeding 7 days. Under these circumstances, we will reprint and dispatch a new set of plates to the purchaser at no additional cost.
Registration Certificate Issues: If you do not receive your registration certificate as expected, please contact us immediately. We will liaise with the DVLA to have a new certificate issued and sent to you.
Purchaser’s Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure the assigned registration is applied to a suitable vehicle before the certificate’s expiration date. The expiration date can be extended by the purchaser if necessary. Yellowhite will not be liable for certificates that expire without assignment.
Duplicate Certificate Fee: An administration fee for issuing a duplicate or copy of the certificate may be applied at our discretion.
Certificate Details: Certificates will generally list Yellowhite or the previous owner/keeper as the purchaser/grantee, with the recipient named as the nominee if specified during purchase. In some cases, a certificate may be issued without a specified nominee. Note that dealerships may have policies affecting the acceptance of certificates for the vehicle’s first registration. Control of the registration passes to the registered keeper once assigned to a vehicle.
Documentation Responsibility: The buyer is responsible for providing the necessary documentation for the vehicle receiving the registration mark.
V5C Log Book: While we often can assign the registration without the original V5C log book, there may be instances where it is required. We will notify you if this is the case.
We rely on the vehicle information provided by the purchaser for assignment. Yellowhite accepts no responsibility for errors due to incorrect information provided.
Vehicle Eligibility: Transfers are limited to vehicles eligible for tax and testing. Vehicles of limited usage, tax-exempt, or not requiring a MOT are ineligible for the transfer scheme.
Retention of Private Registrations: To retain a private registration during a transfer, notify us immediately after placing your order. An additional fee covers the DVLA retention fee and our administrative costs.
Non-refundable Service Fee: If a transfer attempt is made but not completed for any reason, our ‘Managed Transfer Service’ fee is non-refundable.
Self-managed Transfers: If not opting for our ‘Managed Transfer Service,’ the purchaser/nominee is responsible for completing the transfer with the DVLA.
Legal Display of Registration: It is illegal to display the new registration on a vehicle until the transfer is officially completed and confirmed.
All acrylic number plates supplied by Yellowhite are custom-made to order and are considered personalised goods under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. As such, they are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and not eligible for cancellation once an order is placed and confirmed.

Payment Conditions: Payment for the registration number will be made only after the transfer process is complete and the registration is no longer under your name/address. We do not offer advance payments.
Listing Removal Rights: Yellowhite reserves the right to withdraw any registration from sale at any time, for any reason, without obligation.
Events Outside Our Control (Force Majeure): Should we be prevented or delayed from fulfilling any of our obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control—such as delays or errors in postal services, email communications, actions by the Department of Transport (DVLA), or errors made by third parties in processing documents—we shall not be held liable for any failure to perform, any damages, or delays in fulfilling such obligations.
